Fibroids are benign growths that develop in or around the womb (uterus). They are usually not symptomatic, however 1 in 3 women develop symptoms such as  heavy/painful periods, tummy pain, low back pain, a frequent urge to pass urine, constipation, pain/discomfort during sex. Medication to help alleviate the symptoms will usually be recommended first. If these prove ineffective, surgery or other less invasive procedures may be necessary. More information
